Thoughts on Today’s Reading

Grace, mercy and love from Christ to you.

The wrath of God addressed by Paul in his Roman’s is the manifestation of His righteous hatred of sin and wickedness. Paul describes God’s wrath as both a present and future problem for fallen humanity.’ In the present, God’s wrath is experienced as He gives people over to sin’s consuming consequences. In the future, apart from salvation through Jesus Christ, God’s wrath against sin ultimately brings spiritual death and eternal, conscious separation from God. God perfectly expresses His holiness and love as He righteously exercises His justice. As God pours out His wrath on sin, He also mercifully provides an escape from His wrath through faith in Jesus, the perfect atoning sacrifice.

God is not like us. He is not wicked, evil, depraved, envious, or driven by irrational anger. God does not exercise His wrath as payback or to get even. Because of His compassion, God hates the destruction in sin’s wake and seeks to save sinners. Because of His omniscience and wisdom, God perfectly measures His punishment to fit each sin. Because of His impartiality, God will hold all people accountable for their response to His truth. Because all people are born with a sinful nature, no one meets God’s righteous standard. All people deserve God’s wrath and need a Savior.(Inspired by BSF’s Study of Romans)
