[Jesus] was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by His resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord
— Romans 1:4
24 God raised Him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for Him to be held by it.
32 This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses.— Acts 2:24, 32
this He has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus, as also it is written in the second Psalm, “‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You.’
— Acts 13:33
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now He commands all people everywhere to repent,
31 because He has fixed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has appointed; and of this He has given assurance to all by raising Him from the dead.”— Acts 17:30-31
Thoughts on Today’s Reading
Grace, mercy and salvation from Christ to you.
In Romans 1:4 resurrection power is a major point of the gospel of God. Paul recorded in the book of Romans that Jesus, the center of the gospel he preached, was appointed the Son of God in power by His resurrection from the dead. Jesus was appointed the Son of God by the testimony of the resurrection. God’s power demonstrated in Jesus’s resurrection is a striking revelation and the Holy Spirit is the agent of the resurrection because Jesus’s resurrection, accomplished by the Spirit, demonstrates God’s power and offers undeniable proof of Christ’s deity.
Some people hold that “according to the Spirit of holiness” could be translated “as to His spirit,” referring to Christ’s divine nature, which exists alongside His human nature. Another focus of this verse is on the words “in power.” In this view, Paul is saying Jesus’s resurrection unmistakably declared Him to be the powerful Son of God. Through the resurrection, God undeniably declares Jesus’s unique person, deity, and power. Paul’s precise purpose in this section culminates as he declares “Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Inspired by BSF’s Study of Romans)
