Why do you study the Bible? Sometimes we open the Scriptures to find hope in our struggles. Other times we relish the opportunity to fellowship with like-minded believers as we study the Bible together. Some people delight in gaining more knowledge about biblical history or theology. No matter what calls us to the Bible, God does deeper work within us than what we expect or can even imagine. What motivated you to read the Bible? How has God surprised you with what He has revealed about Himself or about you through reading the Bible?

Sometimes the portions of the Bible we read months ago lingers in our thoughts. Other times we cannot remember what we read earlier in the day. Either way, our posture before God matters more than the facts we learn and can recite. When we study God’s Word poised to listen and obey, God leads us in specific ways. He reorients our thinking, realigns our priorities, and guides our daily steps. Our relationships, work, leisure, and priorities mold to the truth that saturates our minds. Let’s make an effort to soak in God’s Word so that we would think of Him, pray to Him and yield to Him.
