Thoughts on Today’s Reading

Grace, mercy and love from Christ to you.

Our God is a speaking God and He invites us to listen. God faithfully reveals Himself. However, to respond to God appropriately, we must forsake what seems right or easy and lean into Him. As our thinking and actions are marred by sin, we think we are doing the right thing when we go our own way and try to rule our own lives. We elevate our opinions and think too little about God. Even when God calls us to specific work, we too easily lay down the bricks and do our own thing.

We tend to wrongly cringe at God’s commands, thinking we know better. The God who speaks through His Word bids us to listen. We do not read God’s Word like any other book. We study and meditate on God’s life-giving words, asking the Holy Spirit to help us to recognize what God is saying. God’s truth, revealing His powerful wisdom and righteous ways, transcends time, culture, and our expectations. God’s revealed truth cuts us to the heart and propels us to action.
