Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking.
— Ezekiel 1:28
Then I said: “Woe is me, for I am ruined, because I am a man of unclean lips dwelling among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts.”— Isaiah 6:5
1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.
2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.— Psalm 19:1-2
“I will cause all My goodness to pass before you,” the LORD replied, “and I will proclaim My name—the LORD—in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
— Exodus 33:19
Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.
— 1 Timothy 3:16
Thoughts on Today’s Reading
Grace, mercy and love from Christ to you.
How can we understand who God is and communicate God’s promises, power, and presence to people? The Bible tells us God reveals Himself and His glory through creation. The glorious vision of Almighty God can prepare us to speak for God. A glimpse of God’s majesty can render humans utterly humbled and speechless. God’s glory encompasses the comprehensive beauty, worth, and majesty of His infinite and perfect character.
God’s inexpressible glory exalts Him far above us in every way. However, God has revealed sufficient glimpses of His glory to call all humanity to ceaseless worship, humble submission, and eternal gratitude. Ezekiel wrote that God reminded him that He is moving everywhere and His presence cannot be limited to a familiar place or favorable circumstances. God’s character and glory stand behind His righteous judgment. Most amazingly, the glorious, eternal, all-powerful God made Himself known in His Son, Jesus Christ, who radiates God’s glory and exactly represents His Father. Our great and powerful God remains present with His people in Jesus Christ.
