20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation.

21 For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

— 2 Peter 1:20-21

I am coming soon. Hold fast to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.

— Revelation 3:11

16 Never again will they hunger, and never will they thirst; nor will the sun beat down upon them, nor any scorching heat.’

17 For the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd. ‘He will lead them to springs of living water,’ and ‘God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’”

Thoughts on Today’s Reading

Grace, mercy and love from Christ to you.

Revelation 22 shows us that the angel leaves no doubt that God authored the prophecy recorded by John, saying, “The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent His angel to show His servants what must soon take place.” John penned the book, but the trustworthy and true words come from God. All biblical prophecy comes to us through people, but God’s Holy Spirit is the source of every word.

Jesus underscores the urgency of the angel’s announcement by saying, “Look, I am coming soon!” Throughout Revelation, John describes Jesus’s people willingly enduring persecution as they wait and yearn for Him. Jesus answers their cry, proclaiming His imminent return. God’s promise of life in His presence runs throughout the entire Bible, as God continually extends grace to the sinful and wayward. Again and again, God’s people grievously rebelled, yet He sent prophets to warn them of coming judgment and offer salvation as their beacon of hope.
