Thoughts on Today’s Reading
Grace, mercy and love from Christ to you.
Humanity lost the joy of God’s unveiled presence when sin ruined the garden where God placed Adam and Eve. God’s commitment to dwell among His people propels His grand plan of redemption.
This wonderful detail makes the new heaven and new earth most glorious. This great promise of God’s presence runs throughout the Bible. God’s promise are He will be our God, we will be His people and He will dwell among us.
The Lord first explicitly stated His intent to dwell with His people after He delivered Israel from slavery in Egypt. At that time, God directed Moses to build a tabernacle, a movable tent where God would meet with them. Throughout Israel’s wilderness wanderings, the tabernacle remained at the center of the Israelite camp, representing God’s presence and the focus of their worship. In the New Testament, the Greek word for “dwell” relates to the word “tent.” John wrote, “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling, or tabernacled among us, the believers.” This same noun is used for God’s “dwelling place” in Revelation 21:3.
