Thoughts on Today’s Reading
Grace, mercy and salvation from Christ to you.
It is necessary for us believers to share and to present the truth that salvation is everlasting. God is true. He cannot lie. If salvation could be lost, God would be a liar when He promises that all who believe in Him will not perish but have eternal life. If salvation could be lost, salvation would not be by grace after all. God would be dishonest when He offers salvation as a free gift in His Word. The gospel message would no longer be good news, because it would actually be an earned reward and not a free gift. If salvation could be lost, Christ’s death was not enough to pay for our sin. If we had to add our works to Christ’s sacrifice, then He may as well not have dies at all.
If salvation could be lost, what would that say about Christ’s declaration, “It is finished?” Was it really finished? Yes, it was indeed finished. If we could lose our salvation, we could not legitimately call salvation a free gift. If we could lose our salvation, would we really have hope? What do we have to offer to the world if we believe salvation can actually be lost in the end by our failure to keep it? Speaking of those who doubted the resurrection, Paul said, “If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.” If we could lose our salvation, did Chris really gain forgiveness for us through His death on the Cross? No! Definitely, we will not lose our salvation.
