20 Therefore no one will be justified in His sight by works of the law. For the law merely brings awareness of sin.

21 But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, as attested by the Law and the Prophets.

22 And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no distinction,

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

24 and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

— Romans 3:20-24

7 The Law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is trustworthy, making wise the simple.

8 The precepts of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart; the commandments of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.

— Psalm 19:7-8

In everything, then, do to others as you would have them do to you. For this is the essence of the Law and the Prophets.

— Matthew 7:12

Thoughts on Today’s Reading

Grace, mercy and love from Christ to you.

The Law exposes our hearts, and shows us we are sinners and we need the Savior. The Law shuts our mouth, silences our excuses and prepares us to hear the gospel that Jesus fulfilled every bit of the Law, lived a sinless life, died a sinner‘s death and rose to give sinners new life. When we use the Law to share gospel, we hope people to see their true need is a new heart, not a better life. Only Jesus can give a new heart.

The Law reflects God‘s holiness and His will for human life, shows us our guilt, humbles us, points out our need for the Savior, guides saved believers to live before God, shapes our relationships with God and people around us, and reminds us every single day the wholeness of God‘s will for His people. The Law does not make us better people on our own but it reveals God’s justice and mercy, magnifies the glory of Jesus and makes us desperate for Christ, for growing in Him, and for being a living testimony of God‘s grace.
