Since we have cleared the misconceptions regarding the Law, we can zoom in on what the Scripture clearly teaches about the Law — the Ten Commandments. The 10 Commandments are not useless. They are powerful instruments in God‘s hands for specific spiritual purposes. Let’s look in each one of these points one by one and see how God still uses the Law today.
First of all, the Law was given to silence every defense. Romans 3:19says, “Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced ….” The Law confronts the deepest part of the human condition and our tendency to shift blame or rationalize our bad behaviors. The Law is to silence such mouths of self justification. When God speaks through the Law, no excuse holds up our moral argument.
