21 But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, as attested by the Law and the Prophets.

28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the law.

— Romans 3:21, 28

10 Whoever keeps the whole law but stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.

— James 2:10-11

Therefore, since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from wrath through Him!

— Romans 5:9

For God has not appointed us to suffer wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

— 1 Thessalonians 5:9

Thoughts on Today’s Reading

Grace, mercy and love from Christ to you.

The Law, firstly, was not given to save people from their sins. The Law was not given to make a person righteous before God. Romans 3:28 says we are justified by faith, apart from works of the Law. Neither was the Law given to impart life and righteousness. Only Christ gives life and justifies believers.

The Law was not given to set believers free from sin or to make them holy in the Christian life. People are justified only by faith, apart from works of the Law. James 2:10 adds for whoever keeps the whole law yet stumbles at one point is guilty of breaking all of them. If you mess up on a singular point, it’s viewed as you break all of it. The law shows us the height of God‘s holiness, and His perfect standard. The Law is to expose us rather than to deliver us.
