7 The Law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is trustworthy, making wise the simple.

8 The precepts of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart; the commandments of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eye

9 The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever; the judgments of the LORD are true, being altogether righteous.

— Psalm 19:7-9

know that a man is not justified by works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.

— Galatians 2:16

21 But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, as attested by the Law and the Prophets.

22 And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.

— Romans 3:21-22

Thoughts on Today’s Reading

Grace, mercy and love from Christ to you.

Finally, the Law does not only show us our guilt, it also reflects the glory of God. It reveals what God values— truth, honor, rest, worship, respect, wife, fidelity, and contentment so when we see the Law right, we see the beauty of God’s holiness and the ugliness of our sin and that contrast drives us to the Cross. With the Law we have access to both justice and mercy while God’s righteousness, holiness and glory is proclaimed and upheld.

The Law absolutely is just, good, and purposeful. It is not a means of salvation, but it is the means by which we recognize our need for salvation. It is not a cure, but it is like a diagnosis for a cure for our disease and that’s why we need to start here because if we skip the Law we soften the gospel, but if we understand the Law, we begin to see how amazing God‘s grace truly is.
