7 What then shall we say? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed, I would not have been mindful of sin if not for the law. For I would not have been aware of coveting if the law had not said, “Do not covet.”
12 So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous, and good.
18 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh; for I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.
24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?
25 Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord! …— Romans 7:7, 12, 18, 24-25a
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
— 1 John 1:7
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
— Ephesians 1:7
Thoughts on Today’s Reading
Grace, mercy and love from Christ to you.
Though some people think that the Law, the 10 Commandments, is harsh, outdated or it’s a bunch of religious rules that no longer apply. Some even think that because we are under grace, the Law no longer matters, but the Scripture doesn’t teach that. In fact, the grace of Jesus Christ affirms the goodness and the purpose of the Law, especially when the Law is used in the right way. The Law is not made for a righteous person, but for those poor, lawless, and rebellious.
The Law is good. It is like a mirror. It shows us how dirty our faces are, but it can’t wash us. The Law reflects our sin, but it cannot remove our sin. The Law just reveals the problem that has already been there. The sinners still need the gospel and that’s the Lord Jesus Christ. The Law shows the dirt but only Jesus can wash it away. So why do we need this Law? Because without conviction by the Law, there is no conversion. Without realizing we are lost, we will not want to be found.
