19 For the earnest expectation of the creation awaits the revelation of the sons of God.

22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until the present time.

23 Not only that, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

25 But if we hope for what we do not yet see, we wait for it patiently.

26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words.

27 And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

28 And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.

— Romans 8:19; 22-23; 25-28

Thoughts on Today’s Reading

Grace, mercy and love from Christ to you.

In Romans 8:26 Paul writes the Spirit helps us in our weakness. When we do not know what to pray for as we ought, the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. When we are at our lowest and when we don’t have the words to express our pain or confusion, the Spirit prays for us, carrying our burdens and bringing them before God through the His praying for us and interceding on our behalf. This is the depth of God‘s love for us.

The Spirit doesn’t leave us to figure things out on our own, but walks with us, guides us and lifts us up when we’re weary. Finally Paul tells us that life in the Spirit brings us an unshakable hope. Romans 8:28 shows us that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him and who have been called according to His purpose. This promise doesn’t mean that everything in life will be easy, but it does mean that God is always working even in the hardest moments to bring about His good purposes in our lives.
