So the LORD said, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days shall be 120 years.”

— Genesis 6:3

The spirit of a man is the lamp of the LORD, searching out his inmost being.

— Proverbs 20:27

15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever

17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.

18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you.

27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.

— John 14:15-18, 26-27

Thoughts on Today’s Reading

Grace, mercy and love from Christ to you.

Because the Holy Spirit hasn’t left, He’s waiting for us to slow down to surrender and to make room for Him. Today is the day we stop living a one dimensional Christian life. Let’s stop seeing the Spirit as an idea and start knowing Him as a person. Let’s walk out of dryness and into depth because of the Holy Spirit. The same Spirit to hover over the waters who fell like fire at Pentecost, who raised Jesus from the dead wants to dwell in us and lead us.

We have heard the whisper, felt the nudge and maybe for the first time we are beginning to understand that this whole time we haven’t been walking alone.
The Holy Spirit has been here waiting, watching, ready to comfort when our hearts were breaking, or when we didn’t know how to pray. He has been ready to fight battles we never even saw because He’s so committed to us. The Spirit won’t force Himself on us. He doesn’t shout over our schedules, or beg for attention to barge where He’s not welcome. He waits for only one thing—our surrender.
