Thoughts on Today’s Reading
Grace, mercy and love from Christ to you.
Regarding conviction, we know we can’t fix what we won’t face. We can’t be free from what we refuse to name. Conviction is heaven’s way of saying, “Don’t stay here.” That’s only the beginning because right after conviction the Holy Spirit does something miraculous — He comforts and He becomes our Counselor. The convicting Holy Spirit doesn’t just whisper truth into the darkness. He stands beside the convicted ones.
When Peter denied Jesus three times, the weight of that moment could’ve crushed him at the rooster’s crow. After the resurrection, Jesus didn’t avoid him. He sorted him out, not to rebuke, but to restore Peter. Jesus said to Peter, “Do you love me?”That’s the convicting voice of the Spirit to call him home. The Spirit convicted David through the prophet Nathan after his greatest moral failure with Bathsheba. The Spirit then empowered David that he composed Psalm 51 — a prayer soaked in both repentance and Hope.
