7 You shall have no other gods before Me.

11 You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave anyone unpunished who takes His name in vain.

12 Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you.

16 Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.

17-21 You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall not covet…

— Deuteronomy 5:7, 11-12, 16-21a

20 Looking up at His disciples, Jesus said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.

21 Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.

22 Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil because of the Son of Man.

23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For their fathers treated the prophets in the same way.

— Luke 6:20-23

Thoughts on Today’s Reading

Grace, mercy and love from Christ to you.

Mount Sinai reveals our guilt and the Mount of Beatitudes reveals our healing. And we need both. If we only know Sinai, we will live in fear. If we only know the Mount of Beatitudes, we might forget the weight of holiness. But together they lead us to Jesus. Jesus is the one who stood between both mountains and said I will bear the weight of holiness so you can walk in the blessing.

Let’s consider about it. Children of Israel trembled at Sinai and could not go near, but when Jesus preached the Beatitudes, the crowds came closer, children sat at his feet. The rejected leaned in. Why? Because the same God who once said, “Stay back!” now said, “Com near!” That’s not contradiction. That’s covenant. In a world right now that either shouting out that rules don’t matter or drowning in perfectionism, we need both mountains and Jesus as the grace, the way.
