3 And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations!

4 Who will not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before You, for Your righteous acts have been revealed.”

— Revelation 15:3-4

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; loving devotion and faithfulness go before You

— Psalm 89:14

Let all creation rejoice before the LORD, for He comes, He comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in His faithfulness.

— Psalm 96:13

7 Doom has come to you, O inhabitants of the land. The time has come; the day is near; there is panic on the mountains instead of shouts of joy.

8 Very soon I will pour out My wrath upon you and vent My anger against you; I will judge you according to your ways and repay you for all your abominations.

–Ezekiel 7:7-8

Thoughts on Today’s Reading

Grace, peace and joy from Christ to you.

Something inside us longs for this world’s injustice to end and all that is wrong around us to be made right. The book of Revelation promises that God will indeed intervene in human history to end evil’s grip on earth. We will learn, with the enlightening of the Holy Spirit, to reconcile the graphic and frightening descriptions of God’s final judgment recorded in Revelation with His love for the people He created. Everything God does reflects who He is. God’s exercise of judgment reveals the perfect holiness and justice that flow from His character. God intervenes when people refuse His mercy and grace. Judgment falls because God will put an end to sins’s damaging corruption.

The horrific reality of final judgment elevates Jesus and His supreme sacrifice. All people deserve the judgment that will befall rebels who refuse to repent. Yet, the Lord Jesus willingly endured the full force of God’s wrath on behalf of all who trust Him for salvation. Revelation records heavenly worship that extols God’s justice alongside the outpouring of God’s wrath against sin. Heaven’s angels and God’s people worship Him as He executes judgment on the earth. God’s justice brings Him glory and deserves our praise. God’s people do not rejoice in the dreadfulness of judgment but find refuge in God’s uncompromising justice.
