Thoughts on Today’s Reading
Grace, peace and joy from Christ to you
It should be a great encouragement for us God’s children that John says of the 144,000, “No lies was found in their mouth.” The 144,000 set a pattern for us that God’s people must demonstrate transparent honesty and integrity. Above all, God’s people testify the truth about their Savior, the blameless Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. “No lie” also refers to how those who follow the Lamb steadfastly refuse to deny Christ, especially in the face of those who promote deception.
John summarizes his description of the 144,000 with one word: blameless. God declared them blameless because, with the blood of His Son, the blameless Lamb, Jesus Christ, they are redeemed to be His people, His precious possessions. John showed us more — the 144,000 “have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. We know that those who wash their robes through Christ’s redemption work are blessed by God. They may have the right to the tree of life and they may enter the New Jerusalem by its gate, participate all the riches of God’s kingdom and be with God unto eternity.
