For if, when we were enemies of God, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!

— Romans 5:10

Now since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity, so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is, the devil,

— Hebrews 2:14

We know that we are of God, and that the whole world is under the power of the evil one.

— 1 John 5:19

Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

— 1 Peter 5:8

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

— Ephesians 6:12

Thoughts on Today’s Reading

Grace, salvation and joy from Jesus Christ to you.

Satan’s cosmic war against God makes every believer’s daily life a spiritual battleground. All humans are born as sinners, naturally allied with God’s vicious enemy. When God graciously redeems His children from Satan’s control, they immediately become the enemy’s target. Satan, a prowling spiritual terrorist, rules the ungodly world system we live in with violence and deception. God’s allies become Satan’s enemies.

Satan’s limited power cannot threaten God’s unlimited authority. In fact, God has already won the war against Satan. Christ defeated death for all who put their faith in Him. Therefore, Satan cannot triumph over God’s unstoppable power and purposes, even when he martyrs God’s people. Though Satan rules this world in many ways and opposes God and all who follow Christ, he will not prevail. The enemy attacks believers with temptation, trouble, and even death, but God’s people resist Satan in God’s strength, not their own. God delivers His people from Satan’s destructive grip. Hallelujah! God reigns supremely.
