1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted; and the train of His robe filled the temple.

2-3 Above Him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings… And they were calling out to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Hosts; all the earth is full of His glory.”

4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook, and the temple was filled with smoke.

5 Then I said: “Woe is me, for I am ruined, because I am a man of unclean lips dwelling among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts.”

— Isaiah 6:1-5

one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

— Ephesians 4:6

No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is Himself God and is at the Father’s side, has made Him known.

–John 1:18

This is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.

— Isaiah 66:2

1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,

2 But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe.

3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

— Hebrews 1:1-3

Thoughts on Today’s Reading

Grace, mercy and peace to you from our Savior Jesus Christ.

Praise the Lord! God is the holy exalted Ruler of eternity! John’s heavenly vision of God on His throne offers a needed perspective. In this world, the unchanging reality of God’s splendor and supremacy often eludes. Evil seems to triumph as the proud exert power and seeming control. The brokenness we experience and observe can seem more real than the incomparable power of an eternal God. But only one deliberate gaze at heaven’s throne can set our thinking right. He is the One “who was, and is, and is to come.” He is overall and through all and in all.

Our God, the triune God, the creator and sustainer of all things—reigns without rival. He exceeds human description and understanding. He has purposefully revealed Himself to humankind. If He had not, we could not know Him. What encouragement this gives us to love and trust this awesome God! God the Father chose to make Himself known through creation and His Word. He sent His Son, Jesus, who perfectly displayed His character on earth. The Holy Spirit opens believers’ minds to understand in part the mysteries that will be fully revealed only in heaven. God’s revelation of Himself through His Word, His Son and His Spirit provides help and encouragement as we navigate life on earth!
