Thoughts on Today’s Reading
Grace, peace and joy to you from Jesus the Lord.
The apostle Paul said, “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?” If God did so much for us by sending Jesus to die for us when we were guilty criminals, dead in our trespasses and sins, children of Satan, what makes us think He will do less for us now that are His very own dear children? James’ words — Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation of shifting shadow — also confirms that God does not change in giving us all things pertaining to the eternal life.
Salvation is a free gift from God. We know we cannot earn salvation by good works or by a holy life. If we could earn our salvation, we would have something to be proud of, but we cannot. Only God deserves to be praised and thanked for His gift of love and kindness, called salvation. When God gives a gift, He does not take it back. All God’s gifts to believers last and are permanent. The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. God gives us the free gift of eternal life which depends on God’s faithfulness, not ours. Praise God! God did not give it to us because we deserved it and we do not have to continue to deserve it in order to keep it.
