37 Everyone the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will never drive away.
38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but to do the will of Him who sent Me.
39 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that I shall lose none of those He has given Me, but raise them up at the last day.
40 For it is My Father’s will that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
— John 6:37-40
28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand.
29 My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all. No one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand.
— John 10:28-29
But according to His promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
— 2 Peter 3:13
Thoughts on Today’s Reading
Multiplied grace and mercy from God to you.
Jesus, God’s Son, is God’s love gift to believers. And believers are the Father’s love gift to His Son. God has sealed for all eternity all who come to Jesus for salvation. For this reason, Jesus will never turn away anyone who comes to Him. Every person the Father gives to the Son comes to Him through faith and remains with Him forever. Jesus said, “And this is the will of Him who send Me, that I shall lose none of all those He has given Me, but raise them up at the last day.”
The ultimate fulfillment of the eternal life Jesus came to give His people awaits “the last day” when He will restore and resurrect every believer as all of creation will become better than new. There is no deeper security or satisfaction than knowing and trusting Jesus Christ. Jesus holds and keeps those trusting Him in His own divine power in this life and forever. People futilely work for “food that spoils” while Jesus alone can meet our deepest need. While every human soul longs for fulfillment this world cannot give, we know there is no higher calling and fulfillment than following Jesus. There is no greater “work” than believing in Him.
