11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is Yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.

12 Both riches and honor come from You and You rule over all. In Your hand are power and might, and in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.

— 1 Chronicles 29:11-12

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

— Luke 19:10

3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; His understanding is beyond measure.

— Psalm 147:3, 5

I will seek the lost, bring back the strays, bind up the broken, and strengthen the weak; but the sleek and strong I will destroy. I will shepherd them with justice.

— Ezekiel 34:16

Thoughts on Today’s Reading

Grace and precious faith from Christ to you!

When Jesus, God Incarnate, walked on this earth, He sought the lost and needy. The sick, hungry, and broken-hearted, crossing the Sea of Galilee, pursued Jesus. People desired hope and help from Jesus.
The miraculous multiplication of five loaves and two fish pointed to Jesus’ sovereignty and revealed His pursuit of their hearts in His gracious love.

A crowd of thousands—seeking healings, food and even a king—surrounded Jesus. Their overwhelming need and the obvious lack of human resources presented an opportunity for Jesus to display His power. A boy gave Jesus his meager lunch and saw it miraculously  multiplied. Likewise, God often allows us to quantify what we lack so we will understand our need for His unlimited power and supply. Though we are clearly inadequate, let’s trust Jesus’ sovereign control. Let’s offer the Lord what we have and allow Him to do what He alone can do to let God receive glory.
